Svalastog Farm

Svalastog Farm, located in the tranquil and idyllic Valley of Grungedal, has passed from father to son since the end of the 15th century. Ours is a working farm specializing in organic sheep farming. We raise a norwegian breed of sheep called the Vill Sau whose ancestors date back to the Viking era.

If you wish to explore this magnificent part of Norway and need a place to stay while on holiday or simply need a good place to spend the night, we have several accommodations to let. Among these are two very picturesque, old style Norwegian dwellings which date back a few hundred years. However, the most popular accommodation is our charming country home, modern and comfortably furnished, with a beautiful rustic décor. The house is large with plenty of room for guests. The eat-in kitchen is well-equipped and a cozy place to enjoy lunch. The spacious living area also has a fire place, a TV area and a grand solid wood dining table to gather around and enjoy the fresh trout caught in nearby Grungedal Lake. The open terrace is the perfect place to enjoy breathtaking views of Grungedal and the Haukeli Mountains while you drink a glass of wine or sip your coffee.

Spend your summer holiday hiking or bathing in nearby Grungedal Lake. For those with a passion for fishing there are plenty of opportunities here for catching plentiful trout. Read a good book while basking in the splendour of our spectacular mountain landscape, and relax while the children romp around the farm and play on our trampoline.

At our beachvolley court ,you have a wonderfull view to the beach far below, while enjoying the game. In the evenings your family can enjoy a lively game of pool in our billiard room. During the winter season we build ski jumps so the kids can have fun skiing and snowboarding.

Local artist, Gerd Svalastog, is well known for her exquisite and original ceramics. Her workshop and art gallery are both located on the property. Even if you’re only in the area for a short time her enchanting gallery is definitely worth a visit. Built from massive logs in gorgeous pine, the gallery, with its unique and handsome array of ceramic china, tea pots, cups, and other beautiful gift items is a delightful place to shop and browse.

Grungedal is a perfect stop if you are on your way from Oslo to Bergen and want to enjoy the famous Norwegian fjords.
